Exercise 4

For each of the following sentences, change the verb in the main clause from the Simple Present to the Simple Past; and change the modal auxiliary from the present to the past. For example:
      He says he can do it.
      He said he could do it.

      Do you think she will manage it?
      Did you think she would manage it?



Exercise 5

For each of the following sentences, change the verb in the main clause from the Simple Past to the Simple Present; and change the modal auxiliary from the past to the present. For example:
      They felt they could not win.
      They feel they cannot win.

      He believed he would reach the Amazon River in a few days.
      He believes he will reach the Amazon River in a few days.
