How Am I Supposed to Live Without You? Song With Lyrics

Song with Lyrics: How am I Supposed to Live without you
by Michael Bolton

Lyrics
I could hardly believe it
When I heard the news today
I had to come and get it straight from you (1)
They said you were leavin'
Someone's swept your heart away
From the look upon your face, I see it's true
So tell me all about it, tell me 'bout the
plans you're makin'
Then tell me one thing more before I go

CHORUS:
Tell me how am I supposed to live without you
Now that I've been lovin' you so long
How am I supposed to live without you
How am I supposed to carry on (2)
When all that I've been livin' for is gone

I didn't come here for cryin'
Didn't come here to break down
It's just a dream of mine is coming to an end
And how can I blame you
When I built my world around
The hope that one day we'd be so much
more than friends (3)
And I don't wanna know the price I'm
gonna pay for dreaming (4)
even now it's more than I can take
CHORUS:

(bridge)
And I don't wanna face the price I'm
gonna pay for dreaming
Now that your dream has come true.

Vocabulary

1.When he says "I had to come and get it straight from you" he means that he needed to hear the news directly from her to check whether he had understood things correctly.
"Get straight" means to make things clear. Example: "Let me get this straight, Mary. You are saying that Tom has failed the exam? I don't believe it! He is such a good student."

2. "How am I supposed to carry on": he feels so overwhelmed by the situation that he wonders how he will manage to continue. To Carry On is a phrasal verb, and it means to persevere, to continue.

3. "When I built my world around  the hope that one day we'd be so much more than friends" When someone builds a world around something or somebody, it means that everything he/she dreams of,  plans, and does is related to that particular thing or person. Everything he did and planned was related to hoping that one day they'd be more than friends.

4. And I don't wanna know the price I'm gonna pay for dreaming. He realizes that all he hoped for was just a dream and that he will have to "pay a price for dreaming". To pay a price for something means to suffer/accept the consequences of  something.
